As part of our Character and Citizenship Education, our P4 pupils went on a Learning Journey to Little India during the Pongal Festival on the 12th, 13th and 14th of January 2015. This is our sixth year organising the Learning Journey and it was well-received by both pupils and teachers.
The Pongal Harvest Festival is celebrated by Indians all over the world, irrespective of religion and is similar to the Autumn Festival celebrated by the Chinese community and Thanksgiving in western communities.
The objective of our Learning Journey was to create an opportunity for our pupils to be aware of the Pongal Festival celebrations in Singapore. Our pupils were able to view the exhibition at the heritage corner as well as to participate in the Pongal Treasure Hunt. This visit served as a good platform for the pupils to gain insight into the celebrations of other cultures. Below are some photos taken during the Learning Journey and reflections of some of our pupils.
