Red-eared Slider

On 1st and 15th April 2016, our school’s red-eared slider laid eggs in our school desert biome and garden.
The school is waiting eagerly for the eggs to hatch!
Three of our boys shared with the school on facts on the slider during assembly and some of the interesting facts are as follows:
1)Whether the slider is a female or male depends on the temperature when it is in egg stage.
If the surrounding temperature is between 220C -270C, they will hatch as males. If the surrounding temperature is higher than 270C, they will hatch as females.
2)They have an “egg tooth” that breaks the egg. It falls off in a few months.
3)Females are usually bigger than males of the same age.
4)Its egg takes 2-4 months to hatch.
