Our school participated in the SYF Art Lab on 30 June at the Jurong Regional Library as part of the Singapore Youth Festival – Celebrations in the Community. 7 of our Art Club students served as student facilitators to guide the participants to create their own unique Singapore hats at our art booth- Expressive Hats!
For our art activity, Expressive Hats!, it was inspired by a famous painting, The Millinery Shop, (1879- 1917) by Edgar Degas, aligned with one of the art syllabus focus area- The World and Region Around Us. Based on the theme, My Singapore, participants created a three-dimensional hat with different media using the elements of art to reflect their creative and unique interpretation that defines the culture, identity and characteristics of Singapore through their perspectives.
Our participants had an enjoyable time expressing their creativity and bonding with their parents as they shared ideas to work together to create their own unique hat. Our student facilitators had gained authentic and meaningful learning experience as they practised their SEL skills, school values and creativity to guide the participants. They were proud being part of the SYF Celebrations and looked forward to more opportunities to serve the community through the art.
